Vijay
Romance, high school with strange lights at night
Vijay and Anna carefully checked for any cars driving by before climbing over the school's fence. Normally they'd be climbing out, not in, and it'd be the middle of the day instead of night. It wasn't a normal situation though. For the past couple weeks, rumors had been going around about weird lights that could be seen around some of the classrooms in the middle of the school. Being the adventurous one, Anna said she wanted to see what it was about and dragged him along with her. Not that he was complaining though, this was way more interesting than just sleeping.
"Man, this place looks so different in the dark" he breathed as they crept through the campus.
"Makes it a bit more exciting, huh?" Anna spoke a bit louder. They weren't sure if there were any watchmen wandering around the school at night, so they were playing it a bit safe. Well, one of them was anyway. "Okay, we're here. Joe said it was over by Anderson's class, right?"
"Yeah." They were across a small grassy area from Mr. Anderson's class now, peeking around another classroom and using it for cover. They would have a good enough view if anything did show up. How long were they supposed to last, anyway?
"Hey Vijay?" Anna broke the silence.
"Yeah?"
"Why do you put up with my bullshit?" she laughed a bit. "I mean, neither of us actually expect to see spooky lights out here, right?"
Vijay tried to keep his own laugh down. If anyone was actually around, they'd probably be busted by now, but still. "It's fun, right? Best case scenario, we get a crazy story to tell about how they're actually real. Worst case, we get to hang out for a bit."
She laughed a bit more. "No, worst case is your parents find out you left your house and you get to clean your pool with a toothbrush."
Yeah...she was right about that. Her parents were way more chill about that kind of thing.
"But hey" she turned around and gave him a smile. It wasn't her normal mischievous look; her eyes didn't have any of their normal intensity. "Thanks for putting up with me."
And as if without choice, he felt himself smile back.
