Itala

Fantasy, shop selling art supplies

Itala heard the pleasant ring of a bell as she stepped into the shop. Her eyes were drawn to the large canvases that floated in the air. Most were basic white, but others seemed to change form as she looked, morphing from one shape to another. She supposed one could show many images with such a canvas, but she'd never be able to afford something that fancy.

Behind the counter was a short gnome with glasses and a friendly face. "Anything I can help you find dear?" she asked.

"Umm...yes actually." Itala carefully stepped through the maze of canvases over toward the counter. "I'm looking for a brush that can paint metals. Something strong enough that you can't break it very easily."

"Hmmm. Alright, come over here for a moment." The gnomish woman stepped off a short stool and took her around to the other side of the shop. "Here are our brushes. These over here," she said pointing to a smaller group "are for metals. I can make them paint whatever metal you'd like, but the ones with thicker bristles will make it stronger. You'll need a few coats if you don't want it breaking though."

Itala looked hesitantly at the prices listed on the brushes. "How much for the spell?"

"Depends. What kind of metal?"

"Iron I guess." This was just going on an door inside her house, so rust wasn't an issue. And there was no way she'd be able to afford something like gold on top of the brush.

"10 silver pieces for the spell then, so 15 total. It will let you paint about a hundred square feet or so with a thin coat. You can always have it recast if you need more, no need for a new brush. Will that be alright for you?"

15 was a bit much, but this would be well worth it if she could paint it right. No do-overs with metal though, so best make it count. "Yeah, that'll be fine." She said with a smile.

"Excellent! I'll ring you up then."

They stepped back over to the counter and the woman cast her spell. A few minutes later and Itala was leaving the shop with a smile on her face. There was a first time for everything, and 15 silver was worth that, even if it didn't turn out.
